The Road

I just finished the book "The Road" by Cormac McCArthy. It was wonderful. And heartbreaking. And scary.

It's a post-apocolyptic story a la Stephen King's "The Stand" or Robert McCammon's "Swan Song". Except it's entirely different. It's what those books might have been like if written by Ernest Hemingway. It's not a story of good versus evil but rather one about human nature. And the will to survive.

The dialogue is minimal. The prose is stark and beautiful and haunting.

The only other Cormac McCarthy book I've read is "No country for Old Men". I loved it too. I think I've become a fan. Now I need to go back and read his earlier books.
